2011-08-31T00:00:00Z PacIOOS created new table based upon the mapping document in PacIOOS database and then copied updated data into table.
2011-09-01T00:00:00Z PacIOOS modified PacIOOS ERDDAP datasets.xml to reflect updated dataset and made data available.
2014-04-10 Abe Coughlin modified datasets.xml to update title: added '- Transects' to distinguish it from the related survey data dataset (PACN_FISH_SURVEYS).

attribute NC_GLOBAL summary String The benthic marine community in the Pacific Island Network (PACN) is a complex ecologic system and a diverse taxonomic environment, including algae and corals and other invertebrates. Reef-building corals are the primary architectural organism and are sensitive to environmental degradation; therefore, they are a good indicator of overall health for nearshore marine ecosystems. Primary stressors to coral reefs include disease, bleaching, sedimentation, eutrophication, storms, and global climate change. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has proposed using coral reefs as a worldwide indicator ecosystem for global climate change (Spalding et al. 2004). For these reasons, the PACN has chosen to implement long term monitoring of benthic marine communities. Benthic marine communities is most closely linked with marine fish, and monitoring efforts will be conducted at the same time and location to maximize data value

variable time   double
attribute time _CoordinateAxisType String Time
attribute time axis String T
attribute time description String The time expressed in this element represents a specific instant chosen to represent the date and time of the observation. Both date and time are included in this term in order to facilitate some searches and services that require resolution of events to this level of precision in time. Some observation events occur on with uncertainty at the level of seconds, hours, or even days or more. Other events occur over a range of dates. For each of these variations of event date and time, a nominal event date and time is selected for IOOS services to best represent the instant of the event for services that require this level of precision. Methods for determining this nominal time will be documented in metadata where applicable.
